Youth Sunfish sailing on the lakes in our area is growing fast. Several of our local clubs have thriving youth programs with many kids learning to sail and some of the older kids regularly traveling to regional and national regattas. But the centerpiece of our junior season has always been the SANJL Youth Championship. Over the years we have seen successive generations of young sailors progress from being the new kids at their first regatta to eventually becoming expert racers. To enhance learning, at each event there is a Regatta Coach who provides advice to all entrants and gives a debrief and feedback on the day’s racing before the awards ceremony.

If you sailed at a SANJL event last year you know you will want to try your hand again. If you have never raced away from your home club before, then these are the ideal regattas for you too. You can sail one or both events. So persuade your parent or coach to help you transport your Sunfish to these regattas and come join us. If you can't get your boat there, ask us and we will lend you a boat! You will make new friends, learn to sail faster and, most important of all, have fun.

To compete as a Midget sailor, an individual shall not have attained his or her 14th birthday by the end of the calendar year in which the regatta occurs. In Midget Doubles, both skipper and crew shall be Midgets. To compete as a Junior sailor, the individual shall not have attained his or her 19th birthday by the end of the calendar year in which the regatta occurs. In Junior Doubles, both skipper and crew shall be Juniors.
